Your Local Southern Lancaster County Landscape and Lawn Care Service

Local, dependable, landscape and lawn care services with guaranteed satisfaction at reasonable cost.

Planting and Landscaping Design Services

We want to be sure that your ideas and preferences are considered. It all begins with an initial consultation. So whether you need just a few shrubs or have ideas for a complete landscape, we custom design the plantings based on our discussion.  We apply our expertise in knowing which plants thrive best in our area.

Spring and Fall Lawn Preparation

We remove leaves, branches and other debris during the Spring and Fall seasons. A well maintained summer lawn look demands year round care to prevent build up of leaves and other debris which can kill grass or even worse… encourage growth of weeds and fungi. Spring and Fall are also appropriate times to consider new plantings of shrubs and trees.

Lawn Mowing Services

We specialize in both residential and commercial lawn care , catering to properties of all sizes. With top-notch equipment and a skilled mowing team, we guarantee a beautifully manicured cut that enhances the curb appeal of any roadside. Our weekly lawn mowing schedule ensures that your property remains pristine, complete with trimming and thorough grass removal. We’re dedicated to providing unparalleled service.

Hydroseeding

Our new hydroseeding service offers a convenient and cost-effective method for planting grass seed, comparable to seeding and laying sod. It’s commonly employed as an erosion control measure on construction sites, providing an alternative to the conventional broadcasting or sowing of dry seed.

Fluid Film® Protection

Corrosion and rust pose significant threat to your vehicle and equipment. Exposure to various elements like sun, rain, wind, and snow can rapidly deteriorate metal, leading to not only a decline in appearance and value, but a safety issue. Road salt, brine, and debris further exacerbate the issue by corroding metal and electrical connections underneath the vehicle.

Light Excavation

Our excavation equipment helps us regrade your landscape for your lawn or bedding. Using a front end bucket loader we can spread soil, gravel and mulch in larger quantities than can be done by hand, making the process cost effective. We fine tune the landscape, grading by hand to remove stones as well as prepare the soil for seeding or planting flowers and shrubs.

Brush and Tree Trimming Services

We carefully provide expert hedge, shrub and tree trimming services – including removal of dead branches or the entire tree as needed. Ross Lawn Services is able to complete the project by branch chipping, stump grinding, topsoil replacement and reseeding the area so that your lawn will never reveal that a tree was ever there. If needed, we provide 24 hour emergency storm damage services for damaged or downed trees.

Ice and Snow Removal Services

We offer ice and snow removal services for residential and commercial customers. We’ll use our trucks, tractors and skid loaders with various attachments to safely  and quickly remove the snow from your driveway or parking area. Then, if requested, we’ll use salt or blended materials to melt away the remaining snow and ice to keep your property safe for walkers and drivers. Stay warm and let us handle the work for you!

Wildlife Food Plots

Attract deer, turkey and other wildlife by creating wildlife food plots on your property. Ross Lawn Service has been excavating and sowing small food plots in Lancaster County for years. It’s a proven fact that the best way to attract deer to your property is a well maintained food plot. We can prepare the plot soil with appropriate minerals, sow the seed, and even supply our own Muddy Creek feed blends to supplement the food plot.

Planting design can range from a simple flowerbed to reshaping an entire property. Beginning at our initial consultation, together we can help develop your ideas into a final design plan. Larger planting design projects benefit from careful planning. A few steps include: a property layout sketch/drawing, considering optional planting and surfacing materials, determining budget, creating a final planting property layout and of course, ensuring the team you hire is committed to bring your design to reality. Ross Lawn Service is here to help.

Excavating Equipment Close Up

Our excavation equipment allows our team to prepare your property for various landscape and lawn care projects. Such as: leveling ground for reseeding, reshaping the landscape to create a new landscape design, or creating new beds for plants or vegetables. We can also spread gravel, stones and mulch to create pathways and coverings for hard-to-care-for spaces.

Landscaped and Mulched Flower Bed

Choosing the right season to trim and prune trees and bushes is important. Pruning too soon or too late can harm trees and bushes as well as affect the bloom expected. Ross Lawn Service is able to help you make those decisions as well as properly prune the branches. We also provide emergency storm services – tree trimming, shredding and debris removal.

Have an overgrown pasture or lot? Our bush hog equipment ranges from 5 – 10 ft wide, is high quality and well maintained to provide quick, clean-cut areas.

Tractor Removing Snow

Ross Lawn Service offers Ice and snow removal for residential and commercial clients. We have the team and equipment to clear snow and ice from walkways and one-car driveways to large commercial parking lots. We can also spread salt or blended melting materials to remove residual ice and snow. Allow us to provide a safe walking and driving area on your property.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do we begin a landscape and planting design project?

A landscape and planting design project, small or large, benefits from pre-planning. Ross Lawn Service would be pleased to consult with you and help you complete your project. Some of the planning steps include: creating your property map; considering materials (mulch, stone, rock) and planting types (flowers, shrubs, trees) colors, and specifications; considering expenses; drawing preliminary designs; and determining the work required to complete the project. We are here to help with your landscape and lawn care project!

What are some services that Ross Lawn Services does NOT provide?

Fertilization and Hardscaping are two areas that we do not service.

Fertilization for lawns and gardens may be provided by professionals who are trained and responsible for accurate application of these products in order to protect the environment.  We do provide landscaping with rocks and river stone, etc, but we do not specialize in Hardscaping for decks, patios, pools, etc.

Can improper mulching harm plants and trees?

Yes. Mulching is very helpful to retain moisture but it can damage trees and shrubs when too much mulch is applied over the root ball or resting against the trunk. Roots often grow up and into the mulch causing stem girdling roots which can kill trees. Mulch also adds decorative value on your property and is available in many colors and textures.

How are weeds controlled?

Keeping your lawn healthy with weekly mowing is helpful. Barren spots can be raked and reseeded. Locally, dandelions, clover, thistle, and plantain are common lawn weeds. For chemical lawn treatments, Ross Lawn Service suggests that you contact a qualified lawn treatment company.

How often should a lawn be mowed?

During the spring and summer, weekly mowing is advised to keep your lawn healthy and looking its best. Less frequent mowing allows for the growth of weeds. We keep our mower blades sharp and clean to prevent damage to the grass blades.

When should new grass be planted?

Late summer and early fall is typically noted as the best time to start new grass. However, it is possible to successfully plant grass in spring after the frost has ended but before summer arrives. It’s important to prepare your soil and to select the appropriate grass seed for the area where you are planting. We would be pleased to help you make your lawn beautiful.

What height should cut grass be?

Mowing does cause stress on the lawn grass, so it needs time to recover after mowing. Ideally, we cut grass no less than 3 inches in height during our mowing service and we also change direction of the mowing process each time we mow. Taller grass retains more moisture, and blocks sunlight from reaching the ground so there’s less opportunity for weeds to grow. During the drier summer months, the grass should be even higher than 3 inches high.

When should trees and shrubs be trimmed?

There are the exceptions to the rule, but non-blooming trees and shrubs should be trimmed in late winter while fully dormant. Summer-blooming trees and shrubs should be trimmed in late winter and spring-blooming trees and shrubs may be trimmed immediately after they bloom.
